They believe that because their stress comes from their work, their exertions and their difficulties that if they reduce these things, the stress will disappear. According to Rabbi Dr Akiva Tatz, this is the wrong approach. As he claims (minute 0:33) ‘the method to finding genuine happiness and calmness is to be doing what you need to be doing.’ A person sitting at her desk working hard but efficiently on the tasks that need doing has more serenity and peace of mind than her counterpart on holiday by the beach who knows she has a stack of work waiting for her when she gets home. Why is this, because as Rabbi Tatz explains, a person is most at ease when they know they are getting on with what they’re supposed to be doing. It’s really as simple as that!
